This hike is not on the Lebanon trail plan but it is a definite crowd pleaser! This is a difficult hike to the top of Peterson Butte on private property, but those who make it are rewarded with a spectacular view.
The hike covers a distance of 3.2 miles round trip with an elevation gain of around 1,000 feet. Most of the walk is forested. The trail is muddy in spots. There is usually poison oak along the route, so keep an eye out. Note that weather can change quickly on the butte.
Bring snacks or a lunch to eat on top of the butte while admiring the beauty of Lebanon and surrounding areas. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars!
*Because this hike is on private property, ALL HIKERS ARE REQUIRED TO START AT 9:00 AM – NO LATE ARRIVALS ALLOWED.
*Children are welcome.
*No pets for this event, please.
*Wear appropriate hiking gear. The trail is usually rocky and quite muddy for stretches, and the weather can be quite different at the peak.
*Please consider if you are in adequate physical condition for this hike. The ascent is the equivalent of walking up 40 floors over the course of a mile and a half – and back down.
*At 11 a.m. we will start to shepherd people down from the peak.
*Please respect the land and the privacy of the landowners so we can continue to hold this hike in future years.
Where to meet
Follow the BLT signs to the parking area, and from there walk uphill to the kiosk to register.
Parking is limited; please carpool if possible.
At the bend where Airport Road becomes Denny School Road, veer onto the small road leading west towards the butte, which is also Denny School Road.
See the map and look for the BLT Event signs.
