This hike is not on the Lebanon trail plan but it is a definite crowd pleaser! This is a difficult hike to the top of Peterson Butte on private property, but those who make it are rewarded with a spectacular view.
The hike covers a distance of 3.2 miles round trip with an elevation gain of around 1,000 feet. Count on about an hour and a half to get to the top and an hour to get down. We’ll start shepherding people down from the peak at 11 am, because we need to account for everyone who enters the property.
Most of the walk is forested. The trail is muddy in spots. There is usually poison oak along the route, so keep an eye out. Note that weather can change quickly on the butte.
Bring snacks to eat on top of the butte while admiring the beauty of Lebanon and surrounding areas. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars!
